FAQ
Questions, answered.
What you get, where the data comes from, and how Veritain differs from a credit score.
What do I get?
A report on the UK company you searched and its directors, drawing the public registers together — Companies House, The Gazette, the UK Sanctions List and (on higher tiers) FCA and VAT checks. You get a clear outcome — “no adverse findings” or “findings to review” — with every finding sourced and dated, plus a director track record. It's decision-support for your own review — not advice, and not a pass/fail verdict.
Where does the data come from — and how current is it?
Only official UK public registers, named on every finding. Each finding is dated “as at” the day we read the register, so you can see exactly how current it is. We don't add opinion — we show you the record and where it came from.
Is this a credit score?
No. A credit score predicts whether a company will pay. Veritain surfaces the counterparty signals a score can miss — a director's other companies and how those ended, live winding-up petitions, insolvency notices, disqualifications, sanctions matches and registered charges — each shown as a sourced, dated fact for your own judgement.
Will the company know I checked them?
No. These are public-register checks and leave no footprint — the company isn't notified and won't see that you looked.
What does “no adverse findings” mean?
That nothing adverse turned up on the registers we checked, on the date we checked, within the scope of your report. It isn't a clean bill of health or a guarantee — it's a sourced, dated statement of what the public record showed. The decision stays with you.
Do I need an account?
No. You can run a check and get your report without creating one. You can optionally create a free account afterwards to keep and re-download your reports.
How fast is it?
Most reports are ready in minutes. Reports with findings to review are human-checked before they're issued, which can take a little longer — we'd rather be right than instant.
Is my use of Veritain lawful?
Veritain is built for lawful B2B due diligence — assessing companies and their directors you have a legitimate business reason to check (a customer, supplier, tenant or counterparty), drawing only on already-public records. It's not a “people search” and shouldn't be used as one.
What happens if you find something adverse?
You see it, sourced and dated, and you decide what it means. We don't grade the company or tell you whether to trade with them. One thing does change though: a report with material findings isn't released automatically — a named analyst checks it against the source records first, which can take up to 24 hours. We email you the moment it's out, and because we only take payment when a report is issued, you're not charged for a report that never arrives.
Can I get a refund?
If we can't produce a report on the company you searched, you don't pay. If something's wrong with a report you received, contact us at support@veritain.co.uk.
How do I find my freeholder’s company?
Your freeholder is usually named on your lease, your service-charge demands, or your ground-rent invoices. You can also look up the freehold title at HM Land Registry (the title register download is £7), which names the freeholder company — then enter that company's name or number here. If you already know the company, just type it in.
Is this legal — is it a people-search?
No. Reverse Check is company-first: we check the company you're dealing with — your freeholder, landlord, managing agent or builder — drawing only on already-public registers, as decision-support for your own review. It is not a people-search, not a credit-reference agency, and not advice.
What does £19 get me?
A sourced, plain-English report on the company you're checking — whether it's active or in trouble, any winding-up petitions, insolvency notices or outstanding charges, a director's public track record, and any UK Sanctions List match. Every finding is dated and cites its source. No report, no fee.
Why is there a pending charge on my card?
Because we authorise the payment at checkout and only take it when your report is issued. That authorisation shows on some banking apps as a pending amount. If no report is produced, the authorisation is released and nothing leaves your account — though the pending line can take three to five working days to disappear. You are never charged twice, and you are never charged for a report we didn’t issue.
A report mentions me, or my company, and it's wrong — what now?
Tell us and a person will check it against the source record. If we got it wrong, or attached a record to the wrong company or the wrong person, we correct it and re-issue free of charge. If you bought the report, flag the error here. If you are named in one rather than a customer, use the data-subject route — you don’t need an account or a report reference, and it carries the full set of rights you have over that information.
What if one of the registers is down when you run my check?
We tell you. A source we could not read is shown as “some checks incomplete” — never as “clear”, because a check that didn’t run is not evidence that there was nothing to find. Ask us and we re-run the missing check free of charge.
