If you are named in a report
Your information, and what you can do about it
Veritain produces due-diligence reports about UK companies for businesses deciding whether to trade with them. If you are, or have been, an officer or person with significant control of a UK company, a report may name you. This page explains what that means and what you can ask us to do.
What we hold, and where it comes from
Only what official public registers publish, plus what we derive from it:
Companies House — your appointments, roles and dates, and the status and filing history of the companies you are recorded against
The Gazette — published insolvency and winding-up notices concerning those companies
The UK Sanctions List — screened by name; a name match is shown as an unconfirmed possible match and is never asserted as fact
The Companies House disqualified-directors register — matched on name and date of birth
We do not buy personal data, scrape social media, trace individuals, or check credit files. Veritain is not a people-search service and is not a credit reference agency.
How our checks work
The assessment is a fixed, auditable set of rules applied to those public records — not an AI judgement about you. Two rules matter most for anyone named in a report:
The outcome is about the company, not about youWe report facts recorded against a person — this role, at this company, between these dates, with this recorded outcome. We do not characterise anyone's conduct or character, and we do not publish a rating, score or grade about a person.
Uncertain identity matches are never assertedPeople share names. Where we cannot corroborate that two records are the same person — a date-of-birth match, for instance — the report shows a possible match needing verification, never a statement that it is you.
A person checks anything material before it goes outReports with material findings, any sanctions match and any safeguarding signal are held for a named reviewer before release. They are not issued automatically.
What you can ask us to do
Ask what we hold about youA subject access request. We respond within one month.
Ask us to correct or annotate somethingIf a record is wrong or wrongly attributed to you, we correct it. Where the public register itself is wrong, we can record that you dispute it while it is fixed at source.
Ask for human review, and contest a findingYou can ask a person to review any assessment that concerns you, put your point of view, and contest the result. A named reviewer handles it.
Object to the processingWe process this information under legitimate interests. You can object, and we will stop unless we can show compelling grounds that override your rights.
Ask for meaningful information about the logicWe will explain, in plain English, which records drove a particular finding and how the rules applied to them.
How to contact us
Email privacy@veritain.co.uk. Tell us your name and, if you have it, the company number involved — that is usually enough for us to find the records. You do not need a report reference, and you do not need to know whether a report about that company was ever produced.
We respond within one month. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk — though we would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
